“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Sony’s (SONY) “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” won the weekend at the North American box office with a $45.2M debut, which was better-than-expected. Overseas, the movie grossed $16.4M from 25 markets for a global cume of $61.6M. “Frozen Empire” is a direct sequel to “Afterlife.”
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Warner Bros. (WBD) and Legendary’s “Dune: Part Two” placed number two again with an estimated haul of $17.6M in its fourth weekend for a domestic tally of $233M. Behind it was Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” with another $16.5M for a domestic total of $133.2M and $268.2M globally. Neon’s specialty horror movie “Immaculate” with Sydney Sweeney placed number four with an estimated $5M debut. Rounding out the top five, Lionsgate’s (LGF.B) “Arthur the King” grossed $4.5M in its second outing.
